Event Location:

  • South Hall 3711

The UCSB Black Studies Department extensively focuses on preparing our Majors and Minors for post-graduate success, consistently facilitating guidance and mentorship surrounding student's graduate school opportunities and potential professions. Please join us for a discussion with Black Studies' Scholars: Lauren O'Brien and Jorge Ramirez, as they present their current research.

  • The goal of Lauren’s research project is to discover how black nationalists and community members have utilized the cultural arts to promote positive self-worth and confidence in black youth.

  • Jorge’s research attempts to situate the work of the Latino/a community against the Gang Injunction proposal in 2011 and in relation to the wider nation.
