Professor Omise'eke Tinsley wins 2023 John Leo & Dana Heller Award for Best Single Work, Anthology, Multi-Authored, or Edited Book in LGBTQ Studies, PACA & PCA

Department Chair and Professor Omise'eke Natasha Tinsley's The Color Pynk: Black Femme Art for Survival (University of Texas Press, 2022), wins the 2023 John Leo & Dana Heller Award for Best Single Work, Anthology, Multi-Authored, or Edited Book in LGBTQ Studies, Popular and American Culture Association (PACA) / Popular Culture Association (PCA).

This award honors the works and contributions to the PCA and to LGBTQ studies by John Leo and Dana Heller. Books demonstrate scholarship that makes a significant contribution to studies in the understanding and representation of LGBTQ people in popular culture. 

The Color Pynk has also earned the following Honorable Mentions:

2023 Alan Bray Memorial Book Award (Q/T Caucus of the American Studies Association and GL/Q Caucus of the Modern Laguage Association). Named in honor of a scholar whose two landmark books have been profoundly influential in gay and lesbian studies, the Bray Award is given to the best book in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer studies in literature and cultural studies, all broadly construed. 
 
2023 Harry Shaw and Katrina Hazzard-Donald Award for Outstanding Word in African-American Popular Culture Studies (PACA/PCA)
This award honors the work of pioneering cultural theorists Harry Shaw and Katrina Hazzard-Donald. Work demonstrate research, scholarship, and discourse that makes a significant contribution to the field of African-American Popular Culture.
